FlockU Alert is a dedicated GPS/GNSS-based camera awareness appliance. It checks your current location against a local onboard database of mapped Flock ALPR camera locations and alerts you as you approach known camera infrastructure.

It does not require a phone app, subscription, account, or live internet connection during use. Location checks happen locally on the device.

Why GPS + a local camera database is better than OUI detection

OUI-based systems try to identify ALPR hardware by listening for nearby wireless identifiers. That can be useful for research, but it is often too late for real-world awareness.

By the time an OUI sniffer “detects” an ALPR camera, you may already be close enough to have been seen by that camera.

FlockU Alert takes a different approach. It compares your GPS/GNSS position against a preloaded local database of mapped camera locations. Instead of asking, “Can I hear the camera right now?” it asks, “Am I approaching a place where a known Flock ALPR camera has already been mapped?”

That means it can provide useful proximity awareness before you are directly beside the camera.

New: battery backup to preserve GPS lock

FlockU Alert includes a small 400mAh battery backup. The battery is not intended for long standalone runtime. It is mainly there to keep the GPS/GNSS module warm and preserve GPS lock during short stops.

This is useful if you are running errands, making deliveries, or driving a route with frequent short stops. When the vehicle is turned off, the battery can keep the device alive for roughly about an hour, helping it stay ready to alert quickly when you start driving again.

Many vehicles have two types of USB power:

• Always-on USB power, which stays powered when the car is off
• Ignition-switched USB power, which turns off when the car is off

The battery backup helps bridge short ignition-off periods when using ignition-switched USB power.

Vehicle mounting included

Each unit includes a vehicle-ready mounting setup:

• 3D printed case
• 3D printed case back with 1" RAM mount ball interface

This makes it easier to mount the device in a vehicle where the display and LEDs are visible while driving.

LED proximity alerts

The onboard LEDs provide a quick visual cue when a mapped Flock ALPR camera is ahead.

At around 1000 feet and closing, the LEDs begin to increase as you get closer. This gives you a simple at-a-glance warning without needing to stare at the screen.

The screen also provides proximity information when a mapped ALPR location is nearby.

What it does

FlockU Alert gets your current GPS/GNSS position and checks it against a preloaded local database of mapped Flock ALPR camera locations. When a known camera location is nearby, the screen shows an alert with proximity information and the LEDs provide a quick visual warning.

The device is designed around local awareness. Your location does not need to be uploaded to a cloud service, and the device does not require a live network connection to operate.

Currently supported camera data

FlockU Alert now ships with a preloaded nationwide Flock camera dataset covering all 50 U.S. states plus Washington, DC.

The firmware uses your GPS/GNSS fix to determine which U.S. state you are currently in, then loads the matching onboard camera database from local storage. Location checks happen directly on the device using the preloaded LittleFS camera packs, with no cloud lookup, phone app, account, subscription, or live internet connection required during normal use.

Camera coverage may be incomplete, outdated, duplicated, incorrectly mapped, or unavailable in some areas. FlockU Alert will not detect every Flock camera, ALPR, or roadside surveillance device. It should be treated as a local awareness tool, not a complete or authoritative surveillance map.
